India Launches ₹10,000 Crore IndiaAI Mission to Boost Domestic AI Ecosystem
The Government of India has officially launched the IndiaAI Mission with a budget of ₹10,371 crore to accelerate the country’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. This ambitious initiative aims to establish AI computing infrastructure, foster innovation, and promote AI research tailored to Indian needs.
As part of the plan, the government will invest in building a robust AI compute infrastructure featuring over 10,000 GPUs, develop indigenous large language models (LLMs), and support AI startups through dedicated funding. The mission also focuses on creating datasets in Indian languages to reduce linguistic bias in AI systems. The move is expected to strengthen India’s position as a global AI powerhouse and reduce its dependence on foreign technologies.
