AWS Cost Explorer introduces natural language query feature powered by Amazon Q

AWS Cost Explorer now includes natural language query capabilities powered by Amazon Q, enabling streamlined cost analysis and visualization updates. This feature is available in all commercial AWS Regions at no extra cost.

AWS Cost Explorer has enhanced its functionality by integrating Amazon Q Developer’s generative AI capabilities, allowing users to employ natural language queries for analyzing AWS cost and usage data. This advancement enables users to pose questions to Amazon Q in natural language, streamlining the process of obtaining insightful answers and automatically updated visualizations within Cost Explorer. This feature aims to expedite cost analysis, reduce the time required to derive insights, and make cost visibility more accessible to all team members.

With the introduction of this feature, users can initiate their cost analysis using new suggested prompts available in Cost Explorer. These prompts address frequently asked questions about costs, such as “Show me my top spending services for this month.” As Amazon Q delivers detailed insights, Cost Explorer updates with corresponding visualizations, filters, and groupings. Additionally, users have the option to ask custom questions using their own words through the new ‘Ask Question’ button, allowing for a conversational exploration of spending patterns. Cost Explorer automatically updates the relevant charts and tables based on the user’s cost and usage data.

When Amazon Q generates insights from supplementary datasets, such as pricing or anomaly detection, the visualizations appear in Amazon Q’s new artifacts panel. Users can maintain the context of their analysis by continuing the conversation with follow-up questions, facilitating a seamless transition from a quick cost overview to an in-depth investigation without the need to switch tools or disrupt their workflow.

This natural language cost analysis feature for AWS Cost Explorer is now available in all commercial AWS Regions at no additional cost. For more information, users can visit AWS Cost Explorer and refer to the user guide to get started.
