Amazon DocumentDB now allows seamless upgrade from version 5.0 to 8.0

Amazon DocumentDB now supports an in-place upgrade from version 5.0 to 8.0, offering significant performance improvements and new features without additional costs.

Amazon DocumentDB, which offers compatibility with MongoDB, has introduced support for in-place major version upgrades (MVU) from version 5.0 to version 8.0. This new feature enables users to upgrade their databases with just a few clicks using the AWS Management Console, AWS SDK, or AWS CLI. Importantly, this process requires no new cluster creation, endpoint alterations, or index rebuilds, simplifying the upgrade for users.

Transitioning to version 8.0 provides significant performance and cost benefits. Users can experience up to a sevenfold improvement in query latency and up to fivefold enhancement in storage compression. These advancements mean applications can operate more efficiently, utilizing less storage and thus reducing overall costs.

Version 8.0 also introduces several new features, such as collation, views, additional aggregation stages and operators, and enhanced text search capabilities with text index v2. Furthermore, vector index builds are now up to 30 times faster, offering substantial performance gains for users.

The in-place MVU from version 5.0 to 8.0 is accessible in all AWS Regions where Amazon DocumentDB 8.0 is available, with no extra charges involved. For more detailed information on how to begin the upgrade process, users are encouraged to consult the in-place MVU documentation. Additional insights into Amazon DocumentDB 8.0 can be found in the comprehensive documentation provided by AWS.
