Kaalidhar Laapata Twitter review: Abhishek Bachchan’s OTT film hailed as ‘endearing cinematic experience’

Abhishek Bachchan’s latest OTT release Kaalidhar Laapata, which premiered on Z5 on July 4, is earning praise for its emotional depth and performances. Directed by Madhumita Sundararaman, the Hindi film is a remake of her 2019 Tamil movie KD Engira Karuppudurai.

The story follows Kaalidhar, played by Bachchan, a middle-aged man who leaves home after overhearing his family’s plans to abandon him. On his journey, he meets Ballu, an 8-year-old orphan played by Daivik Bhagela, and the two embark on a cross-country adventure to fulfill Kaalidhar’s bucket list.

The film, also starring Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Nimrat Kaur, has been widely appreciated on social media.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “Some films entertain, a few stay with you — Kaalidhar Laapata does both and more. Easily one of the most emotionally fulfilling and beautifully made films of the year.”

Another viewer called it “an endearing cinematic experience that seamlessly weaves together humor and emotional depth. With Abhishek Bachchan once again showcasing his impeccable taste in scripts, this film is a testament to his commitment to meaningful storytelling.”

One user lauded the lead actor: “I’ve seen many great actors, but very few make you forget you’re watching a performance. AB Jr did just that in Kaalidhar Laapata. Utterly real and heartwarming.”

Critics, too, have praised Bachchan’s nuanced performance. LiveMint’s Trisha Bhattacharya wrote: “There is a fragility to the way he walks, talks, and smiles—making this one of his more nuanced performances in recent years.”

The Times of India’s Sreeparna Sengupta highlighted his role as central to the film’s emotional core, saying: “Ultimately, it is Abhishek Bachchan’s moving performance that shoulder’s the film’s appeal.”

Meanwhile, Shubhra Gupta from The Indian Express pointed out the standout performance of Daivik Bhagela, noting: “If his child co-star wasn’t such a sparkler, it wouldn’t have shown up the contrast so much.”

Overall, Kaalidhar Laapata has struck a chord with audiences and critics alike, blending simplicity, humor, and heartfelt storytelling.
